Lelaki Pecut Kereta Elak Ditahan Polis, Langgar Mati Warga Emas

Polis menahan seorang lelaki yang memecut keretanya untuk mengelak daripada ditahan sehingga menyebabkan kematian seorang lelaki warga emas dalam kejadian di Jalan Perak, di George Town hari ini.

Tindakan agresif lelaki yang berumur 46 tahun yang dipercayai tokan dadah itu juga telah menyebabkan polis melepaskan empat das tembakan selepas suspek enggan memberhentikan keretanya sehingga polis mengejarnya sejauh enam kilometer di Jalan Batu Uban 2, di George Town.

Ketua Polis Daerah Timur Laut ACP Soffian Santong berkata dalam kejadian 6.40 pagi itu, dua anggota polis yang sedang membuat rondaan cegah jenayah cuba menahan sebuah kereta Perodua Myvi warna kelabu dipandu seorang lelaki dalam keadaan mencurigakan di lampu isyarat Jalan P Ramlee - Jalan Perak, di George Town.

"Lelaki yang memandu kereta itu bertindak memecut kenderaannya bagi mengelak ditahan polis sehingga melanggar seorang lelaki berusia 61 tahun yang sedang melintas jalan dan mangsa terpelanting 10 hingga 15 meter sebelum terjatuh di atas jalan raya.

"Suspek tidak menberhentikan kereta sebaliknya terus memandu laju menggilis warga emas itu menyebabkan mangsa meninggal dunia di lokasi kejadian akibat kecederaan parah pada beberapa bahagian badan dan kepala dan mayatnya dihantar ke Hospital Pulau Pinang untuk dibedah siasat," katanya ketika dihubungi hari ini.

Soffian berkata suspek yang berkerja sebagai pemotong rumput itu berjaya ditangkap di Jalan Batu Uban 2, selepas keretanya tidak dapat bergerak lagi dan suspek tidak mengalami sebarang kecederaan namun pemeriksaan ke atasnya menemukan tiga peket dadah jenis heroin seberat 13 gram.

"Lelaki itu mengaku dadah itu diperoleh daripada kawannya untuk diedarkan kepada rakan-rakannya, dia juga mengaku semasa kejadian berada di bawah pengaruh dadah," katanya.

Beliau berkata polis juga menafikan lelaki itu bekerja di sebuah pejabat konsulat negara asing di George Town sebaliknya jaket yang dipakai semasa kejadian yang mempunyai logo konsulat negara tersebut diberikan rakannya yang bapa saudaranya (rakan) bekerja di situ.

Menurutnya, lelaki yang mempunyai 14 rekod lampau berkaitan dadah dan dua rekod jenayah itu akan direman untuk siasatan lanjut dan kes itu disiasat menurut Seksyen 302 dan 186 Kanun Keseksaan serta Seksyen 39 Akta Senjata 1960.
