Santa is on his way

I so miss Lapland  now that we sre home but I have also noticed the weather cooling down and thoughts of frosty Lapland come to mind. Those husky dogs will be zooming through the snow capped forests, Santa will be sturring from sleep and the skiers will be out in force. How lovely to be in Lapland for the first snow, when the first flakes fall softly. The first snows arrive in late October, early November the snows will not stick but by the middle of November the frosty snow will win and begin to collect around the forests and streets of Lapland

Thoughts of Christmas

Many people have has their summer holiday and are thinking more towards Autumn and winter and maybe getting away for some last minute winter fun. Locals in Lapland are realising that the summer is at an end and are well rested after a long summer, so too are the husky dogs who have been resting all summer. The husky Dogs love nothing better than the winter months where they can get on and do what they love best, racing though the snowy forests of Lapland at top speed and the longer the trek the better. Although most Husky safaris are short, the husky dogs will go on half day and full day treks and love nothing better. They are well adapted to the weather and are built for indurance.

Autumn time in Lapland is beautiful where the days are pleasant and the nights a little chilly. There is snow in the air although snow will not arrive and stick until around the end October. This is when people start turning their thoughts to Christmas and what better place to spend Christmas but Lapland. It is the most magical place to be at anytime of the year but Christmas and New Year are extra. The locals in Yllas Lapland throw themselves into Christmas and New Year and their enthusiasm is infectious.

Lapland Husky Dog Safari’s

There are many Lapland activities and you will struggle to fit them all in on one holiday but one you absolutely must do is the Husky Dog Safari. The Husky Dog Farm is about a ten minute drive from the cabin and you will be picked up and taken directly. As well as enjoying the Husky dog safari there are the beautiful dogs to see and pet and you will also get the opportunity to see the adorable Husky puppies. At the moment the dogs are having a well earned rest where they will play and get ready for the winter period.

On arrival at the farm, you will hear the dogs barking as they wait in anticipation for the trek ahead. They absolutely love nothing better than getting out there through the forests of Lapland ans some of the treks are long lasting half and full days. The safaris that you go on depend on your requirements and if you haven’t done anything like this before, you can go on a small trips that may last half an hour or an hour. Half way through the trip, you will stop off at the tepee in the middle of the forest where the fire will be roaring and you will listen to tales about the Husky dogs, their life, diet and habitat before heading back to the farm. If you have small children, there is the option to have a sledge lined with Reindeer fur, where up to two adults and two small children can sit. You can also drive your own sledge under the supervision of the guide.

The husky puppies are magnificant creatures who live to work and the dedication of both the dogs and the guides is amazing. If you are lucky enough to go on holiday to Lapland try and make sure you visit the beautiful Husky Dogs.

Husky dogs and Lapland

A Husky safari through the snow covered fells of Lapland has got to be one of the most special activities to do in Lapland. From the very first moment when your guide picks you up from your Lapland Log Cabin, the excitement begins to rise. You will arrive at the husky dog farm and will immediately hear the sound of the eager dogs as they prepare to go off on the safari. Not all of the dogs are used at the same time and different dogs will be picked for different safaris depending on their strengths and weaknesses and of course certain dogs work much better together than others. It isn’t as simple as putting just any six dogs together, the guides work all year long training the dogs and know only too well which dogs are best for certain trips. You will walk up the snow covered drive and be introduced to some of the dogs which are resting, amongst those will be some of the adorable husky puppies which are together with some of the older dogs. You may also get the opportunity to pick up and handle some of the husky puppies which the children will absolutely love. If you opt for driving your own husky sledge, the guide will quickly run through the commands with you and if you are part of a group or a family, you will have the choice to have the smaller members of the family and one adult in the husky sledge. Once everyone is ready, the group will set off on the husky safari through the snow covered forests of Lapland. The dogs go at quite a speed but the sledge is covered with snugly, warm reindeer blankets and is extremely comfortable. The children especially, love this activity. You will stop off half way through your safari and have some refreshments, where the guide will explain a typical day in a husky dogs life, he will explain all about their habitat, diet and lifestyle and may go on to explain about all of the other safaris on offer. You really will enjoy the husky dog safari and taking the time to see all of the other dogs and their puppies. The husky farm is a great place to visit even if you don’t go out on safari and the children will just love the experience of interacting with the husky dogs and puppies.
