Ice Fishing in Lapland
When Lapland winter gives space to the spring and sun is shining, the best period for ice fishing starts. In both Yllas villages there is a lake in the middle of the village that is good for ice-fishing. Moving out of the villages there are plenty of lakes full of fish . The most typical catches are perch, white fish, grayling, brown trout, arctic char and rainbow trout. Ice fishing is good fun in Lapland and is a well followed past time. Try ice fishing on your next Lapland Holiday
Years ago the Finns traveled especially to Akaslompolo for the attraction of Ice Fishing. Even hundreds of years ago the lakes were providing Whitefish and Trout for the local peasants in Winter. These days it is the thrill of the catch that keeps the attraction for Ice Fishing going, years ago the Finns simply Ice fished to keep hunger from the door. Rainbow Trout and indigenous species can all be caught under the supervision of the Finnish Forest and Park Service. If you are lucky you may also land a Whitefish. Again Snow fun Safaris offer some great trips for ice fishing that are categorised into levels of duration and your physical condition. The trip will begin with selecting good sound warm clothing for thesnowmobile trip, all clothing is included in the price of your trip. You will then be asked to select a meal from an excellent menu whcih will be provided later during the trip.
