About Yllas Resort In Lapland

The resort of Yllas is a fantastic peaceful Lapland resort based at the bottom of the Yllas Fells. Yllas was one of the first Ski Villages in Lapland to to have their Ski fans ordered before there was a road to the Lapland Village. The new Road network from Kittila Airport to Yllas is much quicker, it normally takes between 30 and 40 minutes depending on the Lapland Weather.

Yllas is still a very quiet resort and isn't your typical commercialised environment. Yllas is Finlands best for Alpine and cross country skiing and offers an enormous range of activities that will cater for all age groups. You can do as little or as much as you like and even if you have activity free days there is still plenty to see and do. Through December until March the average temperature is between -9 and -14 degrees although the temperature can fluctuate and can be as low as -25 or even lower. Daytime hours are short and range from 5 hours in December to 10 hours through to March. It gets light on average in December about 11am and will then begin to get dark at about 4pm, this only adds to Laplands magic and you will truly feel like you are in a winter wonderland.

Yllas is home to the largest downhill and cross country ski centre in Finland and has the countries greatest vertical, the most runs and the largest run (3km). Most of Yllass's higher ski slopes are above tree line which is unusual for Finish skiing. Yllas is also home to the largest network of floodlit cross country ski tracks. In addition to all this, it is a great place for those of you wanting to try out snowmobiling.Yllas has access to 300km of snowmobile tracks with an abundance of activity centres offering a wide range of snowmobile trips.

In Yllas the accomodation and amenities are split between two villages, Yllasjarvi and Akaslompolo, a regular bus travels between the two villages for a small price.

The cabin is situated in Akaslompolowhich is a little village 150km from the Arctic circle to the North. The village is built around theAkaslompololake and surprisingly Akaslompolo in Yllas is home to about only 400 people. The snow in Yllas Lapland begins around mid October although early frosts can begin from late August onwards. The snow eventually begins to stick and collect around November time and by mid March the snow can be 60 to 90 cm deep. By early May the snow will eventually melt.
